Started back in 2013, Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead hold a prominent position in the open source games community. With nearly a decade of independent development behind it, (More if you include the original Cataclysm) today we take a look at the game's history and evolution. Let me know about any other additions you think were important to the game. I'm fairly certain that some of the things I mentioned and that were labeled in patch notes were technically added in other stable releases, while receiving improvements in others. It's a similar story with other parts of the game's history. Check out the wiki and other websites, and you'll often see different accounts of who founded the standalone version, or who was in charge, only for another source to word things differently. Between older websites and downloads not always being available, info on some of the earlier versions seemed to be sparse at times. No archives seem to exist of the mod back on Whale's forums for the game, so let me know if you have any info regarding what it was like. Also comment if you know anything about the various international communitis that play Cataclysm. Didn't get a chance to look into or talk about them much, but I'm aware they exist and can get creative with their own mods. Shoutout to older channels that played the game such as Akhier Dragonheart, Fengferth, Jefmajor, TheUberHunter, BoxMacLeod, Tivec's World, and others. I spent hours looking through guides and tutorials, troubleshooting, and doing whatever I could to try the original versions for myself, but I could never get them to compile without error. Also, some of the dates I mention may be slightly off. Trust me. Check multiple websites and forum posts, and you'll get 10 different dates from people listing official release dates, dates that code freezes went into place, release candidates, and timezone differences since many versions would be released late in the day. If you're new to the game, you can get the latest stable version at: 🤍 Consider getting an experimental build instead for newer QOL features and other additions. I've had a lot of people tell me that Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead looks cool but the learning curve is too steep to even get started, so I decided to put together a day one tutorial. This guide covers basic inputs and how to secure shelter, water, fire, and food on day one of the Cataclysm. This guide is for Cataclysm-DDA experimental build 2022-05-21-1937. The game is in constant development and everything shown here is subject to change. Experimental builds update daily and can be found at 🤍 If you're playing on the older 0.F Stable, you won't be able to get pipes from lockers, which leaves you unable to craft a crowbar and get a 60 liter tank. And the Hopeless Hobo challenge idea is just for fun with only 1 goal to save as many useless npc's as humanly possible if we even can that is but other than that survive until the end! #letsplay Mods in use for this world: No Hope, Secronom(with it's lore mod), Artyoms' Gun Emporium, Bionic slots, XEAS, Packaging, Mining, Bionic Professions, Stats through skills, Blaze industries, hydroponics, and the rest were/are preinstalled base game mods you will have these whenever you make a world on this version of the game! Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead or to most people (including myself) CDDA is a open source rougelike survival game WITH BUILD ABLE CARS!! (and it's a very flexible complex system that will make you very happy to figure out) that's about honestly well.... We have no idea the world basically just ended in every single way humanly possible we got your normal zombies/aliens coming but we also go literal hell gates spawning horrors you hope to never see, sentient fungal hive minds that are planning on taking over all of life, and every single ai/robot has gone absolutely rouge, it's an absolute mess your goal on the other hand is to SOMEHOW survive these impossible odds and to see how far you can get you and don't hope for anything since the ENTIRE GAME is procedurally generated, meaning you have no idea what could be there and where to go everything is based off your risks that YOU are willing take try getting lucky at a military outpost to only find 4 fully automatic M249 armed auto turrets that will make you walk back RIGHT quick it's an amazing game and you're probably thinking *damn that's a lot of content how much will it cost?* well let me tell you it's absolutely FREE, and is definitely worth your time to try it's a bit of a hassle to learn all the controls but eventually you will be able to keep it all to muscle memory and enjoy an absolute hidden GEM of a game. #CDDA #CunningRat

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is a fork of the original game Cataclysm.[4]The game is freely downloadable on the game's website and the source code is also freely available on the project's GitHub repository under the CC BY-SA Creative Commons license. The game is currently largely developed by its community. [3] Rock, Paper, Shotgun named CDDA one of "The 50 Best Free Games on PC" in 2016.[5] The game is text-based, though alternative graphical tilesets are available. Prior to playing, the player generates a world which can be shared between different characters. The player then creates a character and is placed into one of many possible starting scenarios. The player is then free to do whatever they please. Following our crash in the last episode, we decide to head north and explore some new areas of the lab. We do see, for the first time in a long time, a bionic, which we'd like to head over and pick up at some point. In this series we're once again playing Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead. We started in the golf course and have been meandering our way through the apocalypse. My style is generally pretty chill, talking about my life and giving you anecdotes from my past.
